Day 1 Dambulla via Pinnawela
Leave Colombo and travel via Pinnawela towards Dambulla. See baby elephants being bottle-fed and the adults bathing at Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage.
Day 2 Polonnaruwa & Minneriya
Visit the former capital city Polonnaruwa, now a World Heritage Site, and explore the ruins of its ancient Royal Palace and temples. Proceed to Minneriya National Park for a jeep safari and the opportunity to view elephants, reptiles and the prolific birdlife.
Day 3 Sigiriya
Climb the 5th Century Sigiriya Rock Fortress, also a World Heritage Site, and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding countryside before viewing the world renowned water gardens & rock frescoes.
Day 4 Kandy
Visit a spice garden in Matale and then enjoy a Kandy city tour which visits the magnificent temple, Kandy Lake, a bazaar and other famous sites. Enjoy a cultural show in the evening.
Day 5 Nuwara Eliya
Enjoy a leisurely stroll in the beautiful Peradeniya Botanical Gardens before climbing the scenic, winding roads up to Nuwara Eliya in the heart of the tea producing region. Here in Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resort, relax and enjoy the stunning mountain scenery.
Day 6 Colombo via Kitulgala
Travel to Colombo via Kitulgala, the main location for the movie “Bridge on the River Kwai” before arriving Colombo approximately 5pm or, why not extend your stay by finishing at one of our beach hotels (see p174-5)?
