Itinerary
Days 1 & 2 Kota Kinabalu & Kinabalu National Park
Arrive at Kota Kinabalu airport and transfer to your hotel. The next day travel to Poring Hot Springs, stroll along the canopy walkway 100 feet high and if time permits, take a dip in the hot sulphur pools. Later, explore the national park’s mountain gardens, home to many species of orchids, insects and butterflies.
Day 3 Kota Kinabalu to Kinabatangan River
Fly to Sandakan and proceed by road to the Gomantong Caves, famous for the birds nests used by the Chinese in their soup. Travel on to Sukau for lunch at your jungle lodge followed by some time to relax. In the late afternoon, take a boat trip on the Kinabatangan River regarded as one of the best locations to spot the elusive proboscis monkey.
Day 4 Kinabatangan River
Observe an amazing variety of wildlife as you enjoy an early morning cruise along the river to a nearby oxbow lake followed by a short trek through the lakeside forest. After breakfast, the rest of the day is free to explore the surrounding area before another late afternoon river cruise to spot wildlife.
Day 5 Kinabatangan River to Kota Kinabalu
After breakfast drive to Sepilok’s renowned orang-utan sanctuary to observe these amazing creatures and learn more about the ongoing rehabilitation process before transferring to the airport for your return flight to Kota Kinabalu.
Day 6 Gaya Island
A short boat ride brings you to this beautiful island, the largest in the marine park, where you can explore the lush tropical forest. Enjoy a picnic lunch on a nearby island and spend the rest of the day swimming, snorkelling and relaxing before returning to Kota Kinabalu.
Day 7 Kota Kinabalu
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
